I’m an affiliate marketer and have been working my way through a bunch of different affiliate marketing systems, some with more success than others. Why do I point out the seemingly obvious? Well, been there, done that. And even though logic tells us so often this can’t really work as smoothly as being promised, most of the time we are desperate or frustrated enough to just give it a shot. Maybe it’ll pan out after all, against all odds. Kind of like playing the lottery, isn’t it? Well on the positive side having worked myself through system after system like Eric Carles’ The Very Hungry Caterpillar ate his way through every food imaginable (I don’t know how many of you have read that one to your kids, or had it read to you . . .) I’ve learned A Lot about internet marketing and affiliate marketing in particular and I’ve also developed something I’d like to call the “scam-dar”.
There are certain alarms that go off when I hear about yet another ultimate way of making lots of money fast. First one: when the author of the newest thang in marketing is someone nobody has ever heard of before. In the affiliate marketing arena names go around fast and if you’re good at your stuff people hear about it. So if this wonder-program comes out of no-where, it makes me wonder. Second one: If it promises you it’ll do all the work for you with the push of a button. Nothing comes from nothing, except maybe God’s grace. So two options, either they promised too much and you will have to work for your money after all, or it just plain won’t work. Regular rule of thump: If it sounds too good to be true . . . it usually is.
